10 TIPS FOR SPRING HOME MAINTENANCE
Maintaining a healthy home goes beyond dusting and vacuuming. When is the last time you cleared your gutters? How about the last time you had your air con serviced? Follow the tips below to make sure your family and home are ready for a happy, clean spring season.
General Spring Cleaning
Yes, the time for your annual Spring cleaning has arrived! As well as decluttering there are some cleaning items you can complete such as; dusting ceiling fans and cabinets, consider renting a carpet cleaner to freshen your carpets, wash your couch covers, anything you can do to remove settled dust, mites, and allergens for a healthier home!

Check the Gutters
Check for loose, holes or rust in gutters. Improper drainage can lead to water in the foundation. Make sure you also clean out any leaves and twigs ready for storm season!
Inspect the Concrete
Inspect concrete slabs for signs of cracks or movement. Fill cracks with a concrete crack filler or silicone caulk. When weather permits, power-wash and then seal the concrete.

Move Firewood
Time to move the firewood now that the temperatures are up. You should never store firewood inside your home as termites can live inside your logs. Instead, keep the firewood away from your home on concrete or elevated on treated boards, and if possible with a waterproof tarp to keep the wood dry.
Repair Window & Door Screens
Screens are designed to let the breeze flow in and keep the bugs out, but they can only do their job if they’re free from holes and tears. Here in Australia it is too hot to keep those doors and windows closed so if you need to repair a window or door screen, now is the time to do it!

Give Your Home A Shower
Like the exterior of your body needs a scrub, so does your home's. Power washing your home can clear it of mould and mildew, and give it a refreshed look. You can power wash your driveway and walkways too, but always be careful when using a power washer. The force can damage your home. When in doubt, always call a professional to help!
Service Your Air Conditioner
To get the longest life out of your air conditioning system and to keep it running as efficiently as possible, change the filters at least once a quarter and hire a licensed professional to service the system before the start of summer. Just because it gets cool doesn’t mean it’s working efficiently.

Trim Your Trees & Shrubs
This is truly an every season maintenance task since replacing a roof can be expensive and tree limbs are the main culprit. They can also be used by critters as a way onto your home, so clip any and all vegetation to at least 2-3 feet from your house. For higher tree branches, hire a professional company to take care of those for you.
Prioritize Your Roof
Every spring home maintenance checklist needs to include a visual inspection of your roof. Check for any damage, holes, or peeling and replace any damages ASAP to avoid expensive repairs. Make sure to inspect it visually before and after any large storms, so you can prevent a small problem from becoming a costly insurance claim.
Check the Seals Around Exterior Windows & Doors
The cold weather can cause cracks around your windows and doors. Inspect the seals on all windows and doors and replace them as required. This will help prevent water from getting in and help reduce your energy bill.
